Tour

Arroyo City is located in the Rio Grande Valley on the southern tip of Texas.  It's an unspoiled getaway for fisherman, bird watchers and sun worshipers from across the country.  Situated on the Arroyo Colorado, it was first settled by Mexican cattle herders in the early 1860's.  A post office was established in 1887 and operated till 1907.  The area was nearly deserted early in the twentieth century, however, rediscovered by fishermen during the 50's, there are now several small business' as well as a growing population of year round residents.  (Still no post office though.)  You owe it to yourself to check out this rustic fishing and bird watching area while the pace is still slow and easy.  Accommodations range from fishing cabins with their own private lighted piers, to small motels and RV parks.  (See our Business Directory.)
Two airports serve the area and offer easy access.  Valley International Airport is located in Harlingen, TX. and is about twenty five minutes away by car.   Brownsville - South Padre Island International Airport is located in Brownsville, TX. and is about thirty minutes away.  Numerous flights arrive and depart from each airport daily.
From Brownsville or South Padre Island, proceed north on Parades Line Rd (Hwy. 1847).   From Harlingen, take Hwy. 106 east through Rio Hondo to Hwy. 1847 and turn north.  When you reach the end of the road, you have arrived!
